The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) invites the public to attend a public open house for the U.S. 73 (K-7) and Parallel Parkway intersection improvement project in Wyandotte County on Thursday, Feb. 23, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the KDOT Office (650 N. K-7 Highway, Bonner Springs, Kansas 66012).

The KDOT project includes grading and concrete resurfacing to install a Restricted Crossing U-Turn (RCUT) at the intersection of U.S. 73 (K-7) and Parallel Parkway. The RCUT design will restrict left turns and through movements at the minor road, Parallel Parkway, to improve safety and intersection operations. The redesigned intersection will direct traffic from Parallel Parkway to turn right onto the highway and then make a U-turn at a designated median opening.

The meeting will provide an opportunity for the public to view exhibits and videos of project improvements, learn how to navigate the improved intersection, and discuss anticipated traffic control during construction. Project staff will also be available to speak one-on-one with the public. No formal presentation is scheduled, and the public is invited to attend anytime during the two-hour open house. Information presented at the meeting will also be made available online beginning Feb. 24 for those unable to attend at www.kdsotike.org.

Project construction began in September 2022, paused for the winter shutdown period, and is scheduled to resume in March 2023, with anticipated completion in January 2024.
