You are invited to help shape regional transportation to and from KC International Airport!
The Mid-America Regional Council (MARC) and the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority (KCATA) are developing the Kansas City International (KCI) Airport Public Transit Services Action Plan. The project is evaluating public transit options with a goal to improve access and enhance transportation options for passengers traveling to and from KCI.
Please share your thoughts on the interactive map and take the survey. The online survey is open through September 22. Project materials showing current transit service to and from KCI and potential alternatives can be viewed here.
MARC is collaborating with the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority (KCATA) on the Kansas City International (KCI) Airport Public Transit Services Action Plan to evaluate public transit options to serve transportation demands to and from the airport. MARC and KCATA are joined by other regional leadership organizations to support the development of the plan, including the Unified Government.
The goal of this plan is to identify the role of transit at KCI to provide flexible, scalable services for a variety of potential users and better address the needs of Greater Kansas City residents and travelers for business, recreation and large public events.
With the opening of the new KCI terminal in 2023, the recent success of the 2023 NFL Draft, and the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup, Kansas City is poised as a premier destination for arts, entertainment and culture. The demand is more pressing for a reliable, accessible, and multimodal public rapid transit system that serves KCI, surrounding area businesses and key destinations around the region.
The study is evaluating regional options to improve transit service to KCI.
No. This study is taking a broader, regional look at transit service than what the City of Kansas City, Missouri is discussing. There may be some overlap between the two projects, and the information gathered and analysis conducted in this project will be made available for Kansas City, Missouri's project.
No. This study is looking at transit options for a range of users, including employees who work at or near KCI, residents in the metro area that are flying, business visitors, and special events ranging from conferences to concerts to special events like the NFL Draft and World Cup.
It is anticipated that the study will be complete by the end of the year.
That has not yet been determined, but that is the focus on the project.
