KCK Welcomes Monarchs-Themed Street Sweeper

The Unified Government’s (UG) Public Works Department is excited to announce the arrival of a new Elgin RegenX Regenerative Street Sweeper.

To celebrate the sweeper’s arrival, the UG partnered with the Kansas City Monarchs and longtime Kansas City, Kansas-based equipment vendor Key Equipment & Supply Co. to create a themed vehicle wrap.

“Street sweeping plays an important role in street maintenance, which residents consistently mark as their top priority in community surveys,” said Dave Reno, Public Works’ Public Information Officer. “The Elgin RegenX street Sweeper will help Public Works meet resident expectations by enhancing existing activities while supporting a local business and the championship-winning Kansas City Monarchs.”

The vehicle wrap follows a tradition of themed street sweepers in Kansas City, Kansas, including Sporting Kansas City, United States Soccer, Kansas Speedway, SOAR, and a Stanley Elementary School project. Key Equipment & Supply Co. generously donated the vehicle wrap in each case.

The new sweeper will be used with crack sealing and pothole patching operations. It’s equipped with a unique enhancement that also sprays for weeds that cause damage to curbs. The attachment is the second of its kind in the United States and uses an optical sensor to detect and spray weeds in the curb line as the vehicle works to clear debris from roads.

The sweeper is mounted on a conventional chassis that allows for faster response times throughout Kansas City, Kansas. The more efficient vacuum and the vehicle's ability to dispose of debris in a roll-off dumpster mean it will be able to clear cracks and potholes quickly and in advance of patching and sealing activities. Vacuuming excess debris in cracks and potholes means repairs can last much longer.
