Treasurer Rogers Takes Unclaimed Property Tour to Wyandotte County, Delivers Check for over $24,000

TOPEKA— Kansas State Treasurer Lynn Rogers today presented a check for $24,635.25 to At Large District 1 Commissioner Melissa Bynum and Wyandotte County Treasurer Richard Mikesic on behalf of the Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas.

"Reuniting Kansans with their money is one of my favorite parts of this job," said Kansas State Treasurer Lynn Rogers. "Our team is working hard and developing creative ways to get more unclaimed property back in the pockets of Kansans, that includes city and municipal governments."

The check presentation was part of Treasurer Rogers' tour of the state as he works to return millions of dollars to individuals, school districts, businesses, and local governments all across the state. The State Treasurer's Office has identified more than $25 million in unclaimed property for residents of Wyandotte County.

“With nearly $400 million in the state’s unclaimed property fund, and more than $25 million identified for residents of Wyandotte County, I encourage everyone to check out the State of Kansas Unclaimed Property dashboard to determine if they or a family member might have monies owed to them,” said David Alvey, Mayor/CEO of the Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas. “We appreciate the Kansas State Treasurer’s Office for their on-going efforts to help reconnect individuals, businesses, and entities with the unclaimed property and dollars for which they might be eligible.”

Unclaimed property can be any financial asset that its owner has not claimed or has not had any owner-generated activity for a specific period of time. Unclaimed property is not real estate.

Claiming unclaimed property through the Office of Kansas State Treasurer is always easy, safe, and free. Any website requesting credit card information or offering to find property for a fee is not the official website of the State Treasurer.
