Longtime Unified Government PR Director Retiring

Longtime Unified Government Public Relations Director Mike Taylor is retiring after almost two decades with the organization.

During his tenure, Taylor launched The Citizen Newsletter, UG ENews Source newsletter, UGTV, UG Facebook page and other social media outlets and oversaw design of a nationally award-winning government website.

As lobbyist for the community, he helped pass legislation which allowed the Legends Premium Outlet Shopping Center to be built, cleared the way for redevelopment of Kaw Point, saved STAR Bonds which helps finance construction of Children’s Mercy Park, the American Royal and the Homefields sports attraction. This year he succeeded in passing legislation allowing establishment of a Wyandotte County Youth Fatality Review Board.

“Wyandotte County and KCK is a dynamic, always advancing community. I’ve been honored to serve the Unified Government and citizens,” Taylor said.

Retirement from the UG doesn’t mean he will be hanging out at the beach or sitting in a rocking chair in Piper. Taylor will be gearing up Strategy Consultants, his own business, offering government relations, crisis management and media training services.

Taylor’s last day at the Unified Government will be July 7.
