On December 15, 2021, Governor Laura Kelly announced major Kansas highway projects including the selection of the I-435 & State Avenue interchange reconstruction as part of the Eisenhower Legacy Transportation Program (IKE).

At the completion of the project the I-435 & State Avenue reconstruction will have a Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI) that will be just north of I-70. A diverging diamond interchange will help handle the increased traffic for developments to the east. A DDI will also accommodate pedestrians while the existing interchange does not. This project builds from an interchange study completed in 2017.

Governor Kelly’s announcement of 25 highway modernization and expansion projects totaling $750 million to the development pipeline as part of the Kelly Administration bipartisan, 10-year (IKE) program. The I-435 & State Avenue project is estimated to cost a total of $24M.
