Willard will serve a four-year term per state statute

The Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, KS Board of Commissioners have appointed Matthew Willard to the position of County Appraiser.

Mr. Willard joined the Appraiser’s Office in 2006 after having previously worked as a fee appraiser.   He has progressively assumed more responsibilities, serving as Deputy County Appraiser most recently. Mr. Willard will lead the critical function of determining the accurate and equitable values of all property types in Wyandotte County.

The County Appraiser provides annual updates to the Unified Government Commission and the County Administrator’s Office on trends and valuation changes across the county. The Appraiser’s Office is undergoing several significant technology projects to improve the customer experience and to enhance productivity including, deploying tablets in the field to appraisers allowing for real time data entry. Additionally, this department has been on the leading edge in the use of data and geospatial analysis.

“Matthew Willard’s considerable technical and managerial abilities will serve him well in this challenging but essential role,” said County Administrator Doug Bach. “I am confident in his capabilities to run this department with continued excellence and service to our community.”

The County Appraiser is appointed by the Unified Government Commission and reports to the County Administrator. The position is appointed to ensure independence in making valuation decisions and to keep the appraisal process free from actual or perceived political interference. The Unified Government is a combined City/County that functions with a County Manager form of government. The County Appraiser serves a four-year term beginning July 1, 2021 and expiring on June 30, 2025. The Board of Commissioners confirmed Mr. Willard’s nomination on July 29, 2021.

“I am excited to continue to serve the residents of Wyandotte County in this new role,” said Mr. Willard.
