UG Clerk Monica Sparks Earns Certified Municipal Clerk Designation
Published on June 16, 2025
Congratulations to Unified Government Clerk Monica Sparks for earning the designation of Certified Municipal Clerk (CMC), which is awarded by the International Institute of Municipal Clerks (IIMC), Inc.
IIMC grants the CMC designation only to municipal clerks who complete rigorous educational requirements and have a record of making significant contributions to their local government, community, and state. The Certified Municipal Clerk program is designed to enhance the job performance of the Clerk in small and large municipalities.
“When I initially met County Administrator David Johnston, he encouraged me to obtain Certified Municipal Clerk certification,” said Sparks. “His support and enthusiasm for the designation led me to explore the program. The program is normally a three-to-four-year process, but I was determined to find time to devote to the program in addition to my family and work responsibilities. I am proud to say I completed the program in 18 months. Having the CMC designation provides the Unified Government organization and the citizens I serve the assurance that the challenges we face will be met with a high degree of professionalism. I am thankful for the opportunity to enhance my education and skills as the Unified Government Clerk.”
The CMC program prepares applicants to meet the challenges of the complex role of the Municipal Clerk by providing them with quality education in partnership with institutions of higher learning, as well as State/Provincial/National Associations. The CMC program has been assisting clerks to excel since 1970.
“Monica’s hard work and commitment to complete such an extensive program in less than 18 months speaks volumes to her level of dedication to public service,” said County Administrator David Johnston. “The CMC designation not only equips Monica with additional professional development but also prepares her for the ongoing demands of the clerk's office.”
“In light of the speed and drastic nature of change these days, lifelong learning is not only desirable, but also necessary for all in local government to keep pace with the growing demands and changing needs of the citizens we serve,” said IIMC President Lisa Garcia, MMC. “Your city can take immense pride in Monica's educational accomplishments and achievement of this milestone.”
The International Institute of Municipal Clerks, founded in 1947, has 14,000 members throughout the United States, Canada, and 15 other countries, and the mission of this global non-profit corporation is to enhance the educational opportunities and professional development of its diverse membership.
Congratulations, Monica Sparks, CMC!
