“More Than Memories” is a collection of items and stories that the Wyandotte County Museum has collected over the past few years. While the themes of these items vary, they all have significant historical value to Wyandotte County. This display gives the Museum a chance to share these unique collections with the public, while allowing each story to stand on its own.

This exhibit will include recently donated items saved by the ancestors of Clarina Nichols, abolitionist, temperance and women’s rights advocate, and the story of the writ granted to Wiley Pope’s family in Quindaro, researched by his 5th great-granddaughter Lisa Wicker.

Other interesting items that will be highlighted include items from the Woodlands Racetrack, photographs taken by members of the Wyandotte County Camera Club, and a model airplane made as a thank you gift given to health department volunteers this spring. We will also share some of the great stories and comments collected from our daily posts on Facebook, as well as personal memories shared from visitors to our recent 1951 flood and the fast pitch softball exhibits.

To round out the exhibit we will be highlighting advertainments from the Monty Gross Collection. Monty Gross was a dedicated Wyandotte County historian and museum volunteer. He was known as the living google for Wyandotte County history, no matter what topic of someone is interested in, Monty had photocopies ready to hand out.  After his death the museum was gifted all his research including newspaper articles organized by topic and date, photographs from much of the county’s history, and plenty of Wyandotte County advertisements which will be highlighted in this exhibit.

Please visit The Wyandotte County Museum to see these items along with many more. More than Memories will run from November 19, 2021 through February 15, 2021.
