Kansas City, KS – The Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, KS (UG) is pleased to announce the hiring of Amanda Martin as Director for the Wyandotte County Museum. Ms. Martin comes to this role with over 25 years in both museum education and leadership.

Prior to joining the Unified Government, she was the Executive Director of The Grove Museum under the Florida Department of State in Tallahassee, FL. As a Kansas native, Martin spent most of her career working in Kansas art museums and participating in museum and education organizations, providing leadership with their state-wide activities. Her work includes the Kansas Museum Association, Kansas Art Education Association, Kansas Department of Education, and the Kansas Alliance for the Arts in Education.

“It is great to welcome Amanda back home to Kansas to guide the programs and activities of our Wyandotte County Museum,” said County Administrator David Johnston. “I am sure that she will appreciate, as I have since I moved here, the strong and rich heritage that the area brings to us all.  I look forward to working with Amanda as we showcase the many wonderful stories and histories that are uniquely Wyandotte.  I am particularly interested in how we showcase our history to the many visitors that will attend the World Cup games in 2026.”

As Director, Martin plans to implement strategies gained from her experience in museum community engagement, developing K-12 partnerships and professional learning, as well as promoting diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion.

“I’m excited about all the wonderful exhibits, programs, and outreach the Wyandotte County Historical Museum has been doing,” said Martin. “I look forward to continuing to connect and serve our community through future projects and initiatives.”

It is no big surprise that Ms. Martin has a great passion for museums, her father was the Curator of Vertebrate Paleontology at the Kansas University Museum of National History, and she spent much of her childhood playing at the museum.
