A Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) pavement improvement project on a segment of eastbound and westbound I-70 from I-435 to 78th Street is scheduled to start Sunday, May 18, weather permitting. The project includes concrete pavement patching and is scheduled overnight from 7 PM to 5 PM, Sunday through Thursday, and Fridays, as needed. During hours of work, nightly lane closures will be scheduled and traffic will be reduced to a single lane. To allow for concrete patch curing, a single lane may remain closed the following morning. Traffic will be controlled using channelizers, changeable message boards and signs. Message boards have been placed in the area to alert motorists of the upcoming project. Iowa Civil Contracting, of Victor, Iowa, is the contractor for the $6.8 million project, which is expected to be completed in late November. KDOT urges motorists to stay alert and follow posted signs in all work zones. For current road conditions, visit KanDrive.gov or call 511.
