The Unified Government recently closed a public survey on the future of Sauer Castle. This historic property is privately owned but has become the subject of several news stories due to the years of neglect and disrepair. We heard from 3,564 people who shared some interesting ideas. 82.6% of those surveyed believe that if there was no other option to preserve Sauer Castle, the government should use eminent domain.

"I want to thank all the community members who responded to the survey," said Commissioner Christian Ramirez, District 3. "This community has spoken loud and clear and I want them to know that I hear you. My only goal is to save and preserve Sauer Castle and preserve our rich history."

When thinking about future uses of the property, those surveyed responded:

  • 84% of respondents support a museum/tours of the historic building and grounds;
  • 64% of respondents supported either a public park or event facility; and,
  • 60% of respondents supported the building/grounds being reused as a wedding venue.

We are weighing next steps with this valuable input from the community. In the meantime, thanks for your feedback!
