With the winter weather threatening dangerously cold temperatures, high winds, and snow, the Unified Government mobilized community resources to ensure that there was no interruption of services to our seniors. The Wyandotte/Leavenworth Area Agency on Aging provides our most vulnerable neighbors access to prepared meals that are delivered through the Meals on Wheels Program. With the storm headed our way, the Transit and Public Works Departments worked with the Area Agency on Aging to find staff volunteer teams of two to make the deliveries to seniors.

"We recognized how critical it was to avoid any disruption in service," said Interim County Administrator Cheryl Harrison-Lee. "Our team worked quickly to find ways to ensure that our most vulnerable were not left without meals ahead of the holiday weekend. I am so proud of how our Unified Government departments worked together to make this happen."

By today, these teams will have delivered more than 200 meals to county seniors. While Unified Government buildings are closed to the public on Friday, December 23, the Unified Government continues to provide remote service and online options which can be found at wycokck.org. Additionally, warming centers, including our recreation centers, and our overnight shelter are available for the public needing a place of refuge during this winter storm.

Thanks again to our team for their service!
