Rebecca Berger Named Treasurer and Director of Revenue

Rebecca Berger has been named Treasurer and Director of Revenue for the Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, KS. Ms. Berger brings 15 years of experience in local government management to this role. Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, the Treasurer handles all revenue generated by the Unified Government, including the collection of real estate and personal property taxes for the entire County.
“Rebecca has a proven record of technical skills within the finance area,” said Chief Financial Officer Kathleen VonAchen. “She has demonstrated her ability to accept new challenges and responsibilities during challenging times.”
Ms. Berger started her career in Cherryvale, KS in 2007 as the Assistant City Manager and City Clerk. Most recently, she served as the City Manager for the City of Atchison, KS where she worked for nine years, starting as the Assistant City Manager/Finance Director before being appointed to City Manager in February 2018. Ms. Berger is an active member and past board director for the Kansas Association of City/County Management.
“I’m really looking forward to working for a larger organization with more resources than we had available in the smaller communities I’ve work for,” said Ms. Berger. “I’m also excited to work for a unified government where those resources are better allocated and shared between city and county. I hope that my background and experience as a public manager will be helpful in building a strong team and ensuring a positive public image in the treasury department.”
Operating under the regulations of the Kansas Department of Revenue, Ms. Berger will oversee the receipt of all deposits through the collection of permits, fines, licenses and taxes; distribution of tax levies for Wyandotte County, Kansas City, KS, Bonner Springs, Edwardsville, and four school districts; collection of current and delinquent taxes; and the motor vehicle program. Ms. Berger’s appointment to Treasurer and Director of Revenue is effective immediately.
