About Congregate Meal Sites

Congregate meal sites offer nutritious meals to qualified individuals ages 60 and older in a group setting. The Turner Community Center will be the ninth congregate meal site coordinated by the Wyandotte/Leavenworth Area Agency on Aging. The Choosing Healthy Appetizing Meal Plan Solutions for Seniors (CHAMPSS) is a meal program administered by the Area Agency on Aging with funding by the Older Americans Act. There is a suggested donation of $3.50 per meal. However, donations are not required to have a meal. All donations go 100% back into the nutrition program to help offset the waiting list.

Did you know?

The average age of congregate meal participants across the United States is 76.5 years old with 59% of participants 75 years or older. A majority of participants live alone and nearly half of participants indicate that this meal provides half or even all of their total food for the day. 75% of participants report the program helped them continue to live independently, improved their health, and that they eat healthier because of the program.
