Public Works’ Solid Waste Management Division is launching a new test program designed to improve trash and recycling collection in Kansas City, Kansas. Beginning Friday, August 1, participating households will transition to a modernized system using 96-gallon trash and recycling carts picked up by truck-mounted arms operated by a single driver. The program begins in a selected portion of the community. Residents in the test area have already received one 96-gallon trash cart and one 96-gallon recycling cart. Waste Management (WM) provides these carts at no cost and designs them for safe, efficient pickup by trucks equipped with mechanical arms. The new approach reduces litter, missed pickups, and manual handling of heavy containers.
