Tonight during the Board of Commissioner meeting, Mayor Tyrone A. Garner provided an update on the search for our next County Administrator.

"While there are many moving parts above all it is going to be a community-driven process," said Mayor Garner. "I am committed to ensuring that our search is timely, transparent, thorough, and inclusive."

The Mayor announced that a request for proposals will be issued to identify a search firm to develop and lead the process. The goal is to have the consultant team in place next month. Additionally, the Mayor committed to creating an open process where the community will have the opportunity to engage with the finalists. "I am looking for someone who is community-oriented and has experience in distressed urban communities," said Mayor Garner. "We are looking for someone who is well-qualified, has the right education and experience, and other intangibles."

Finally, the Mayor proposed a Selection Committee with Commission appointees representing the community be part of the process.

Last month, Ms. Cheryl Harrison-Lee, Interim County Administrator, confirmed that she did not intend to pursue a permanent position with the Unified Government and will support the search for the next administrator. Appointed in January 2022 by Mayor Garner, Ms. Harrison-Lee will serve as Interim County Administrator until April 2023. Please stay tuned for more updates.
