The Northeast KCK Heritage Trail project is one of the 23 community-identified projects in the Northeast KCK Area Master Plan, completed at the end of 2018. The goal of the Heritage Trail project is to identify a historical trail and markers to commemorate the rich history of the Northeast while also connecting community assets, leveraging green infrastructure projects, and identifying policy priorities for equitable economic development. Groundwork NRG, our implementation partner for the Northeast KCK Area Master Plan, was instrumental in securing a regional Creating Sustainable Places grant from the Mid-America Regional Council to help realize this project. The planning process began in April 2021 to address four focus areas: history, mobility, economic development and environment and is ongoing!
