On Tuesday, October 4, the Unified Government launched Workday - an enterprise software system replacing outdated databases and manual processes with a single, integrated platform. This change impact all of our nearly 2,200 employees - making it easier for staff to manage their own information digitally - while building in greater accountability into our processes. This week's roll-out includes the core compensation and benefits as part of the human capital management capabilities.

""Workday gives us the tools we need organizationally, and as individual employees, to be strategic and informed in our decision-making," said Director of Performance and Innovation Crystal Sprague. "I am excited for what this platform will bring to our teams now and the amazing possibilities for future continuous improvements throughout the UG!"

In the coming months, as we approach the start of our next fiscal year, additional Workday functions will be rolled out to support hiring, time tracking, and other financial operations. Upon completion of this roll-out, the Unified Government will have the most comprehensive implementation of Workday in the KC metro.

"This is a transformational time at the Unified Government," said Interim County Administrator Cheryl Harrison-Lee. "We deeply appreciate the commitment and time of the entire implementation team over the past two years. This project is a great example of the importance of effective change management, capacity-building, and fostering organizational resiliency."

Improving How We Work

Workday is reliant on automated workflows, using organizational structure for approvals, to advance the tasks. As with any technology implementation, there are many opportunities to look at policies and processes that guide how we work and identify opportunities for improvement. Workday is key to our digital transformation, replacing many paper-based processes and outmoded database systems, saving time and improving outcomes. Over the last 12 months, the Unified Government performed thousands of tests on process workflows and and data to ensure we leverage this software effectively and eliminate any unnecessary steps.

Better Data = Better Outcomes

With the full Workday implementation, the Unified Government will be well-positioned to address several of the topics that have emerged from our ongoing organizational assessment through UG Forward. Like all organizations, human capital is our greatest asset and Workday will enable the Unified Government to better manage employee information, hiring processes, training and professional development, and support career ladders and advancement. The financial management tools will help us streamline processes, develop automated reports, and build more accountability into all of our work. Please stay tuned as we continue to move the UG Forward.
