Wyandotte County/ KCK Winter Weather Preparations
In preparation for the anticipated weekend winter weather conditions, the Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas (UG) is taking precautions to ensure Wyandotte County/ KCK streets and bridges are safe.
Beginning today (Jan. 2, 2025), the UG Street Maintenance Division will start pre-treating bridges, hills, hot routes, and secondary routes. Once they have completed these areas, they will move on to pre-treating all Wyandotte County and Kansas City, KS neighborhood streets.
Waste Management Collection Update for Saturday, January 4th
In continuation of the one-day holiday delay for residential trash and recycling collection, Waste Management (WM) will begin trash and recycling collection for Saturday, January 4th at 5:00 AM for all Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas residents. This earlier pick up start time will ensure services are accommodated due to the anticipated weekend weather conditions.

Inclement Weather Impact on Transportation Services
Due to anticipated weather conditions and snowfall over the weekend, the Unified Government Transportation Department will implement our Inclement Weather Procedures to ensure the safety of our passengers and drivers.
On Monday, January 6th, please expect delays of over one hour, with the possibility of significantly more prolonged delays. Customers with non-critical or non-essential trips are encouraged to cancel or reschedule their rides.

Inclement Weather Advisory for Paratransit and Microtransit Services
During severe winter weather, RideKC prioritizes the safety of our passengers and operators. Please be aware of the following:
Service Impacts
- Delays and Suspensions: Paratransit and microtransit services may experience delays or suspensions when road conditions become unsafe. Service adjustments often begin when roads are ice-covered or when snowfall exceeds 3 inches.
- Reduced Service Areas: In extreme conditions, service may be limited to main roads and critical areas only.
- Notification Process: Service suspensions or delays will be communicated through the RideKC website, social media channels, and the RideKC app.
Path of Travel Requirements
- Clear Path Required: Customers must ensure that all paths of travel to and from the vehicle are cleared of snow and ice.
- Driver Assistance: Drivers are unable to assist with snow or ice clearing.
- Ride Refusal: Customers may be refused service if they cannot safely access the vehicle due to uncleared paths.
Notifications and Updates
- Stay Informed: Check the RideKC website, social media channels, or the RideKC app for real-time updates on service status.
- Phone Lines: Due to high call volumes during severe weather, phone lines may be busy. For faster assistance, use online tools for trip updates.
Safety First
- Allow Extra Time: Travel may take longer during inclement weather.
- Be Prepared: Dress warmly and ensure safe access to pickup and drop-off locations.
