Young KCK Artists Share Their Ideas for Our Future
Published on November 07, 2023
In an effort to hear from the youth of our community as part of developing our shared vision for Kansas City, KS, the PlanKCK team hosted an artist competition for KCK residents ages 21 and younger. We were thrilled by the imagination and creativity and thank each individual artist for their contribution to our effort.
The City of Millenium
Artists: Akeelah Edgely, Keileia Forbes, Kastilla Forbes and Nevaeh Robinson
“The City of Millenium” is a group project by four high school students that imagines what KC would look like if it ran off of solar energy.
The Future Everyone Wants
ARTIST: Kastilla Forbes
The second submission received is titled “The Future Everyone Wants” by Kastilla Forbes where she imagines what KC might look like if we don’t do something about it.
Solar-Powered Transportation
ARTISTS: Stacy Castenada, Karla Falcon, Kelly Rodriquez, Allison Conde, Miley Beckwith, Keyle Valiente, and Jacqueline Silva
Congratulations to this team for their collaborative submission – a video by students from right at Gloria Willis Middle School and Carl Bruce Middle School. This team wanted to create a solution for pollution and transportation costs for our community. By finding a way to create solar powered cars, we could eliminate a lot of financial burden when it comes to transportation and give our community a better quality of air.
A Happy Future
Artist: Angelí Flores
When Angelí, a student from Junction Elementary School, imagines our future, she wants “Wyandotte to be vibrant, colorful, and active not with boring gray buildings. [She wants] to see banners, tall stores that are super colorful, and stuff where everyone can have fun. My artworks shows happiness and never sadness.”
Thank you to all of our talented youth for taking the time to participate and for sharing their vision for our future.
