UG's goDotte is Honored with Transportation Achievement Award

Congratulations to our Department of Planning & Urban Design for the recent announcement that the goDotte Mobility Strategic Plan will be honored with a Transportation Achievement Award in Planning. The strategic plan is our first-ever countywide transportation strategic plan which was adopted by Commission in August 2022. Working with stakeholders across Wyandotte County, including the Cities of Bonner Springs, Edwardsville and Lake Quivira, this plan will be integrated into the citywide comprehensive plan update, PlanKCK, as the transportation component.

About goDotte

The goDotte Strategic Mobility Plan is a plan for Wyandotte County that strives to reimagine mobility to focus on moving people and not just vehicles. The plan will ensure that future transportation investments support the community’s goals to improve quality of life for the people who live, work, and play in Wyandotte County. The goDotte plan integrates transportation and land use decision-making to develop a more sustainable network, and will modernize transportation policy to respond to respond to 21st Century challenges. 

About the Transportation Achievement Awards

The Transportation Achievement Award is a competition established by the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) with the Missouri Valley District Institute of Transportation Engineers (MOVITE) competition initiated in 1993. This is an annual award to be presented to an organization (government agency, legislative body, consulting firm, industry, or other private-sector organization).

The Transportation Achievement Awards may be awarded annually for excellence in the advancement of transportation to meet human needs, by entities concerned with transportation such as governmental agencies, legislative bodies, consulting firms, industry, and other organizations. Awards may be presented in the categories of:

  • Complete Streets,
  • Transportation Systems Management and Operations (TSMO),
  • Safety,
  • Planning, and
  • Traffic Engineering.

This award recognizes an organization for one or more of the following:

  1. Development of an innovative concept in Complete Streets, TSMO, Safety, Planning, and Traffic Engineering.
  2. Implementation of a challenging transportation program through perseverance in its development and promotion.
  3. Program or project having a significant effect on transportation.
  4. Multi-faceted transportation program or project, combining many innovative and/or well-applied concepts.
  5. Program or project promoting a major advance in the efficiency and/or economy of transportation.
  6. Projects and initiatives that advance safety for all the traveling public, including pedestrians, cyclists, and users of alternate means of transport.
  7. Innovative and effective application of elements such as roundabouts or speed humps.
