Single-use packaging, cigarette butts, plastic bags, and other trash clog storm sewers and wash directly into our rivers and streams. Wildlife gets entangled and ingests this pollution. Litter also creates microplastics and leeches PFAS, known as “forever chemicals”. Picking up trash mitigates these effects. Plogtober 2023 will take place in October across dozens of parks around the Kansas City region. Sign ups are available NOW for our pre-arranged cleanup sites, or you can submit your own team (or fly solo) to pick up litter on your own block! The county with the highest volunteer count (each volunteer fills at least ONE bag over the course of their trail hike), wins bragging rights of the Mid-America region’s Top Plogger! Share your haul on social media for a chance at individual prizes too!
