Many Healthcare Services & Programs Available through UG

The Unified Government Public Health Department (UGPHD) offers a wide range of services and programs designed to help all Wyandotte County community members be as healthy as possible. These services range from various health screenings to programs for expectant moms, infants and families with children, to nutrition counseling, vaccinations and other programs. Many services are available by appointment.

Here are some of the services offered at UGPHD: 

  • Reproductive health services, including:
    • Pregnancy testing and counseling
    • Birth control/contraception
    • Prenatal clinical care for people without insurance
    • Becoming a Mom® prenatal classes
    • Well-women exams
  • WIC nutrition services and benefits
    • Nutrition benefits and education
    • Breastfeeding peer counseling & support
  • Health screenings:
    • Mammograms (breast cancer screening)
    • Cervical cancer screening
    • Tuberculosis screening and treatment
  • Vaccinations/Immunizations
    • Childhood and teen vaccinations
    • Foreign travel vaccinations
    • Adult vaccinations
    • COVID vaccinations and boosters
  • Laboratory
    • Commonly requested lab tests on a walk-in basis (on a sliding fee)
    • Lab services for Health Department programs
  • Sexually Transmitted Infections/HIV
    • STI counseling, testing and treatment
    • PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis) for HIV prevention
  • Healthy Families Wyandotte – a comprehensive home visiting program for families, starting as early as pregnancy and continuing until your child turns three.
  • Youth Empowerment Services (Y.E.S) case management for pregnant and parenting teens who are on Medicaid

To make appointments for these services call the UGPHD at the main number, (913) 573-8855, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. For WIC services, call (913) 573-7620. The UGPHD is located at 619 Ann Avenue in downtown KCK. 

In addition, the UGPHD works on many additional programs and initiatives to serve Wyandotte County, such as:

  • Emergency Preparedness – A key service of a local health department is to prepare for and respond to public health emergencies.
  • Epidemiology - The UGPHD Epidemiology team tracks the spread of disease; identifies causes and risk factors of health outcomes and diseases; and works to reduce or prevent poor health outcomes and spread of disease in Wyandotte County.
  • Environmental health - The UGPHD Environmental Health team works to protect Wyandotte County from air pollution and provide a safe and healthy community through regulatory programs on pools, septic systems, schools, and childcare.
  • Community health initiatives – The UGPHD works with community partners to address issues affecting health and quality of life across our community. Examples of the focus areas include community health education, infrastructure, substance use, tobacco, violence prevention, and fetal and infant mortality.

Now WYCO Health Link Program Provides Free Transportation to Participating Health Clinics

Need transportation getting to-and-from a medical appointment? The WYCO Health Link program might be able to help! The program provides free rides to-and-from medical appointments at participating clinics. It’s available for people who live in Wyandotte County and who have an appointment at a participating clinic for non-emergency medical services.

Individuals can participate in this program regardless of income, insurance coverage or immigration status. Since its launch, WYCO Health Link has provided more than 250 rides to medical appointments at participating clinics.

About the Rides

Rides are scheduled for patients through clinic staff at each of the participating clinics. Unified Government Transit is the primary transportation provider for WYCO Health Link. In addition, WYCO Health Link offers ADA compliant rides and the ability to install child car seats or booster seats in Unified Government Transit vehicles. Those who request transportation through the program will get text and/or phone call reminders in English and Spanish.

WYCO Health Link is coordinated in partnership between the Unified Government Transportation Department, Unified Government Public Health Department, Vibrant Health and the participating clinics.
