KANSAS CITY, KS - Launching Monday, February 3, 2025, the Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, KS will expand RideKC On-Demand to include a new Northeast Microtransit Zone. This zone, connecting the Fairfax area to I-70 between the Kansas River and North 43rd Street, will link to the existing Midtown and Legends Zones and make it easier than ever to access employment, retail, healthcare, regional transportation and more.
“We are thrilled to launch the RideKC On-Demand Northeast Microtransit Zone as a vital transportation service for our community,” said UG Transportation Director Desiray Bush. “Transportation has long been a significant barrier in our community, and with the introduction of our ride-share program, we are working to address this issue with convenient, reliable and accessible service to complement our traditional bus service."
The Northeast Microtransit Zone will connect Wyandotte County residents with key employers, including Empire Candle, General Motors, and Phoenix Metals; grocery stores such as The Merc, Sun Fresh, and Save-A-Lot; educational institutions such as Donnelly College, Bishop Ward, and Wyandotte High School; and community services, including the Shalom House, Catholic Charities, and Mount Carmel.
What is Microtransit?
Microtransit is an on-demand shared ride service, like an Uber or Lyft, that can be scheduled and paid for via the IRIS Mobile App (for Android and iOS,) the IRIS Booking Website, or through the UG Transit Dispatch Center at 913-573-8531. The curb-to-curb service operates Monday through Friday from 5:30AM to 8:00PM and Saturday and Sundays from 7:00AM to 4:30PM. Rides are $3.00 per person, per ride and can be paid via the app or with exact change to the driver. RideKC On-Demand connects Wyandotte County in ways that traditional fixed route transit cannot.
