Cost-Share Program Benefits Residents and Improves Water Quality

Kansas City, Kansas residents and business owners can now benefit from programs to improve water quality from stormwater runoff. A free soil test is available, and a Cost-Share program will reimburse participants for a portion of installed stormwater projects on Kansas City, Kansas properties.

The program goal is to improve water quality in our streams, rivers, and lakes caused by pollutants in stormwater runoff. The Unified Government Public Works Department is partnering with the Wyandotte County Conservation District who will administer the programs.

The Cost-Share Program will reimburse residents and business owners for a portion of stormwater control project costs installed on their property. The program includes a:

• 50% match, up to $1000 for rain gardens, native plant buffers, cisterns, and permeable pavers.
• 50% match, up to $75 each for two rain barrels.
• 50% match, up to $75 each for native trees, maximum two trees per household.

Each household or business property can get one (1) free soil test to assess if their soil needs nutrients to improve soil health. Testing your soil provides information about the type and amount of fertilizer your lawn and plants need. This prevents over-fertilizing, which can save you money and time.

Funding is available on a first-come, first-serve basis and may be limited depending on the number of requests and funds available each year.
