About the Art Contest

On July 1, 2025, the Wyandotte County Public Health Department launched a health-themed community art contest open to adults and children ages 4 and up who live in Wyandotte County. This initiative invited participants to express health and wellness through creative artwork and aimed to raise awareness about health topics and essential health services. The contest was coordinated by the Wyandotte County Public Health Department in partnership with the Kansas City, Kansas Public Library and the Bonner Springs City Library.

The art contest closed on August 8, 2025, and we received more than 80 entries! A panel of judges from the Health Department, Kansas City, Kansas Public Library, and the Bonner Springs City Library selected 24 finalists, whose work was displayed at the Third Friday Art Walk on August 15 for community voting to help determine the winning pieces of artwork.

Winning artwork will be showcased in a 2026 Public Health Department Calendar, which will be distributed to the contest winners, public health department clients, and community partner organizations to share at their locations. A panel of health department staff helped determine which pieces of art will be featured in which months of the calendar to align with health observances and themes throughout the year, such as placing a mental health themed piece of art in May during Mental Health Awareness Month.

The art contest project was supported by grant funds. We hope to secure grant funding to continue holding community art contests again in future years!
