Solid Waste Management
Solid Waste Management responsibilities include oversight of weekly residential trash and recycling services.

 

Household Hazardous Waste Disposal

The Household Hazardous Waste Center will be open on September 18 & 19 from 8:30 AM - 1 PM and October 17 from 8:30 AM to 1:00 PM. The site is located at 2443 South 88th Street, Kansas City, KS 66101.  For more information about accepted items, view the "Drop Off Sites" tab below.

 

Yard Waste Disposal

Residents who are Waste Management customers can bring in ONE truckload of yard waste PER WEEK for drop off. Anything more than one load per week will result in a fee. Residents should bring in their photo ID along with a current BPU bill to provide proof of residency.

8:00 AM to 12:00 PM Saturday

UG Provides Reassurance in Waste Management Dispute

The Unified Government has been working with Waste Management to resolve service issues for more than two years under a contract that expires in 2032.


The Unified Government desires to resolve our service issues and differences with Waste Management to ensure all UG customers receive consistent and timely trash and recycling collection.

In fact, the Unified Government has taken a number of steps to address Waste Management’s concerns in order to improve and maintain collection services, including:

  • Approved route changes to balance and improve service

  • Adjusted payments annually based on community growth

  • Provided direct 311 phoneline access to Waste Management to facilitate complaint resolution

  • Witheld funds under the contract to remedy recurring, systemic missed trash and recycling collections

The Unified Government remains committed to working with Waste Management to ensure our residents receive the service they pay for and deserve.  The UG is committed to ensuring that service is not interrupted by any contract dispute with Waste Management.
